Update on Discharge Operations and Bunkers Removal of the mv Maren
15 May 2023

The mv Maren, a container ship that was grounded in the Black Sea earlier this year, has been the subject of ongoing efforts to remove the vessel's cargo and bunkers. In this article, we will provide an update on the current status of the discharge operations and bunkers removal process.

As previously communicated in our advisories, the bunkers removal process of the mv Maren is almost complete. The removal of bunkers is a crucial step in the overall salvage operation, as it involves the extraction of the ship's fuel and lubricants to prevent any potential environmental hazards.

Furthermore, the discharging of on-deck cargo from the vessel began last week, and the first batch of 42 intact containers has already been unloaded. These containers will be discharged at the port of Samsun and are expected to be transported to Poti by the end of May.

The discharging operations will continue through multiple barge rotations, and the time taken for this operation will be influenced by various factors such as weather conditions, barge capacity, and operational complexity. However, the team handling the operation assures that they will keep all parties involved updated on the progress of the operation on a regular basis.

Once the containers are offloaded from the mv Maren, individual shippers will be contacted and provided with updated forwarding forecasts. This will allow them to plan and coordinate the transport of their cargo to its intended destination.

The ongoing salvage operations are critical not just for the recovery of the vessel but also to prevent any adverse impact on the environment. The team responsible for the salvage operation is working tirelessly to ensure that the operation is carried out safely and efficiently.

In conclusion, the bunkers removal process of the mv Maren is almost complete, and the discharging operations are underway, with the first batch of containers already unloaded. The team handling the operation is committed to keeping all parties informed about the progress of the operation. We will continue to keep you updated on any developments as they unfold.
